The World Solar Challenge has committed to offset the carbon emissions from all official travel and official vehicles. Teams and supporters can offset the emissions from their World Solar Challenge experience by planting Australian native trees through the Greenfleet organisation.
Greenfleet's policy is to plant trees to create forests in areas of environmental concern, putting back the mix of native species that had been there originally. The trees are propagated from seed collected in the local area to provide maximum ecological benefits - reducing salinity and soil erosion, and providing essential habitat for native species. The majority of plantings occur in winter to ensure the rains help to get the trees off to a good start. Use the emissions calculator at www.greenfleet.com.au and subscribe directly to maximise the benefits.
