I have a question - whom do I ask?

All questions regarding the event should be addressed to the organisers office main email address wsc@tourism.sa.com This will allow the question to be answered by the most appropriate person.

Three of my team members wrote last time and got slightly different answers - how can we avoid that?

Perhaps three of your team members wrote slightly different questions! This situation can be avoided by directing all questions through the Team Manager. All correspondence between the Organiser and the Team should be directed thorough the Team Manager.

Can I ask direct questions to the technical faculty?

The Technical faculty are all busy people who give their time to the World Solar Challenge. They also travel extensively so writing to them directly may only delay an answer. Whilst there will be times when team managers are invited to have direct contact with the technical faculty, all questions should be addressed to wsc@tourism.sa.com in the first instance.

This will be our first event - is there anyone we can learn from?

The WSC community maintains a Wiki resource at http://scg.levels.unisa.edu.au/src/

There is also a self-managed listserve on Yahoo Tech Groups http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wsc/

And a Blog at http://wsc.org.au/blog which has its own RSS feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/WorldSolarChallenge

Why have the battery weights been reduced for 2009?

Each edition of the event starts with a review of advances in technology and allowances for the 2009 WSC have been set after many hours of discussion and deliberation.

The World Solar Challenge has always emphasised the contribution of solar power by acknowledging the relationship between the energy required to complete the route and the energy provided by the battery.

As advances in technology allow the energy density of a given battery type to increase, the allowable weight (set by the eminent scientists of the technical committee) decreases.

Do I need a visa to come to Australia?

That depends on your country of origin. As a team member all you need is a tourist visa. Film crews may need other visa. The Organisers will seek "Event Status" with Customs and Immigration which will make applications easier and mean that the Organisers will not need to issue "Letters of Invitation". Further details of these arrangements will be provided to managers of registered teams. The visa requirements for Australia are published at http://www.immi.gov.au

What volunteer positions are available?

The event relies on its volunteers and seeks a mix of experience and new blood, therefore there will always be new volunteer positions available in each event. Volunteering for the World Solar Challenge is not like volunteering for any other event. You will be away from home for extended periods, and may not be provided with the most comfortable accommodation or your favourite food and while not everyone can be in Darwin, it is a wonderful experience and one for which many hold fond memories.

Volunteering for the World Solar Challenge requires commitment, professionalism and, in many cases, diplomacy.

If you think you have what it takes to be a volunteer for the 2009 World Solar Challenge please register your interest at wsc@tourism.sa.com
